A.P. World History Summer
Assignment
Why ?:
You might be asking why do I have to do work this summer, school doesn't
start until September? You have chosen and been recommended to take a
college course as a Sophomore in High School. A.P. World History is an
extensive look at the history of the world from 8000 B.C.E. to the present.
In order to prepare for this vigorous course I have developed a few summer
assignments.
- If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email me: John@mcgarvey.com
- You can also post a question to the class newsgroup, to get help from
your classmates.
Assignment I: Summer Reading
Read "Guns, Germs, and Steel" by Jared Diamond. This is an
excellent national bestseller and the winner of the pulitzer prize. In
addition to reading the book I have created an Interactive
Reading guide for you to complete. You must type a response to each
chapter question in the Interactive Reading Guide. The assignment is to
be typed, double-spaced, arial font, 12 pitch with one-inch margins.
Direct quotes from the text should be cited with a page number.
(If you do not have a computer, I suggest you print out this study
guide before the end of school). This "Reading Guide" will be
due the first day of School. There will be a test at the end of the first
week covering the material from the book.
- Interactive Reading Guide: Guns,
Germs and Steel.
- You might have to click on the contents tab twice.
- If the Interactive Reading Guide doesn't work on your computer
you can use the simple text version.
- Corrections:
- Chapter 1 Question -Should say: Describe the life of CroMagnon
man.
- On the 3rd question for Chapter 1, it asks "Which continent
had a 'headstart' in 1100 BC? Why?" The date is supposed to
be 11,000 BC.
